Go Gators!

So the Florida Gators [http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=sportsNews&storyID=2007-01-09T091717Z_01_SP165707_RTRUKOC_0_US-AMERICAN-FOOTBALL-BCS.xml&WTmodLoc=NewsHome-C3-sportsNews-3 won the national college football championship game] last night. Personally I don’t follow college football at all, and generally think it’s play-off system (or lack thereof) is kind of goofy, but after living in Gainesville (home of the [http://www.gatorlug.org/ Gators]… I mean [http://www.gatorzone.com/football/ Gators]) for around 4 years, for the first time ever I watched the BCS Championship game last night. I thought the guys on the field did a good job, but the commentators failed to recogonize one of the most important contributors to the effort…. me! I can’t help but feel somewhat responsible for the win really. You see, I moved from Tampa to Gainesville in the summer of 2002, and shortly thereafter the Buccaneers proceeded to [http://www.tampagov.net/about_Tampa/local_sports/Super_Bowl_XXXVII.asp win the Super Bowl]. To prove it was no fluke, the Lightning (a team I had gone to see play many times) followed that up by [http://www.tampagov.net/about_Tampa/local_sports/2004_Stanley_Cup.asp winning Lord Stanely’s Cup]. With that track record, could it really be just a coincidence that just a few short months after moving from Gainesville that the Gators win the BCS Championship? I don’t think so. So congratulations Gators I say. And to the city of Gainesville? You’re welcome.
