Whoami?

My story is probably similar to a lot of yours; I got started with the Internet by reading emails lists. Email lists led to newsgroups. Newsgroups led to a website, built with simple HTML. HTML led to Javascript which led to PHP which led to PostgreSQL and so on and so forth. Since then I’ve used things like Perl, Java, ASP, Oracle and all other hodgepdoge of technologies to implement websites and web based applications at companies you’ve heard of like [http://www.businessweek.com/1996/47/art47/bw4770.gif Sprint], [http://www.bizjournals.com/tampabay/stories/1997/04/07/story5.html Verizon], and WebMD, as well as companies you maybe haven’t heard of like [http://dijest.editthispage.com/2000/01/31/fromRomacEmergesKforcecom Kforce] and Auction Management Solutions. Oh, I currently live and work in [http://www.visitgainesville.net/ Gainesville], Florida as a PostgreSQL DBA. My hobby is getting involved in more projects than I can handle; I have contributed to many open source projects, with the primary ones being [http://www.postgresql.org PostgreSQL] and [http://phppgadmin.sourceforge.net phpPgAdmin]. I’ve also worked on a couple of books for [http://www.apress.com Apress Publishing], written a few articles, spoken a [http://conferences.oreillynet.com/cs/os2004/view/e_sess/5173 couple o][http://conferences.oreillynet.com/cs/os2005/view/e_sess/6692 f times] at OSCon, and I tend to do some consulting work like database optimization, [http://www.slony.info slony] setups, and upgrade strategies. And I maintain this blog. And I have a wife and three kids. Ok, that last one isn’t really a hobby, but it sure can be a project at times!
