The proposal review period has ended and the list of appoved projects has been released for Google’s Summer of Code. We have a pretty good mix of projects that will help both on the front end as well as the back end of the database, and also mixing between projects that will provide more immediatly tangible results verses some that are a little more research oriented.
I think everyone on the selection commitee was pretty happy with the results, with the only negative being one student whom had submitted a very nice proposal for building a graphical query builder for pgAdmin III who ended up getting accepted for another proposal with another project and ultimatly deciding to go with that one. So I guess you can’t have it all, but I think we’ve made out pretty well.
For those interested in following the project updates, we plan to set up some tools to do that on a per project basis, expect more news as things get underway; once again thanks to Google for making it all happen.
